Pushing or Flowing? A Cellular Conversation
For much of my life, I’ve pushed—pushed to get things done, to help others, to carry on the work Charlie and I began in 1998. And yet, when I look back, much of it was done in flow.
Flow feels effortless. Pushing feels like strain. And our bodies know the difference.
How Emotions Affect Your Health
When we push, our brain releases norepinephrine (NE), activating the stress response (Sympathetic Nervous System). Muscles tense, blood pressure rises, and the immune system shuts down.
When we flow, we release acetylcholine (ACH), activating the healing response (Parasympathetic Nervous System). The body relaxes. Cells open like flowers. Healing begins.
Our Cells Remember
The amygdala stores emotional memory. If you’ve lived in push-mode for years, your body may default to stress—even when it’s not needed.
But awareness gives you power.
You Can Rewire the Response
Next time you feel stressed, pause and ask: What’s pushing me?
Step back. Breathe. Tell your cells:
“That was then. This is now. I choose to relax and allow flow.”
Even two minutes of calm can help your body shift from stress to healing.
Try Saying This:
“I’m talking with my cells, releasing acetylcholine to activate healing. I choose calmness and confidence.”
Let that be your anchor.
Let flow guide you forward.
With joy and blessing,
Jill
