When One Thing Promises to Fix Everything

A distant healer reflects on supplements, gut health, and the mind-body connection—and why pausing to listen to your body matters more than finding one cure.

Recently I spent about thirty dollars on a supplement after someone strongly recommended it to me. According to the explanation, this particular intestinal bacteria was exactly what I needed and could fix the problems I was experiencing.

So I bought it.

When I got home, I did something simple that I usually do first. I looked closely at the label.

What I discovered surprised me. I was already getting the same bacteria in another blend I take regularly with greens and fruits. Not only that, the little bottles I had just purchased contained a large amount of sugar that hadn’t been mentioned when the recommendation was made.

That moment made me pause.

As a distant energy worker, I spend a great deal of time thinking about how the body, mind, and emotions work together. I talk with people regularly and use this awareness within myself to explore the connection between breathing, stress, digestion, and the immune system. I know how interconnected these systems are.

And yet in that moment I still got caught up in the idea that one thing might fix everything.

It happens easily.

When someone speaks with certainty about a supplement or health solution, it can create a sense that a missing ingredient has finally been found. The body begins to look like a machine that simply needs the right component.

But the body rarely works that way - It’s possible when the belief is strong enough and all other systems are in line to support instantaneous healing. (Think about it for a moment - we have “instantaneous illness but the mechanism is the same)

Digestion, breathing, stress, sleep, emotional life, and immune function are all interacting constantly. What we experience as a physical symptom is often part of a much larger pattern moving through the whole system.

That’s one reason I’ve come to think about supplements differently over the years.

Instead of seeing them as fixers, I tend to see them as reminders.

A nutrient or probiotic doesn’t necessarily repair the body the way a new part repairs a machine. Instead, it can support the conditions that help the body return to patterns it already knows. The immune system strengthens. Digestion improves. Energy stabilizes. The body remembers its own balance.

A few days after the supplement episode, I met with my teacher in distant healing. He also suggested several supplements for me. I ordered them, but with remembering what I am learning and teaching.

Supports for the larger healing process already underway — breathing work, stress regulation, immune support, and the body’s own intelligence. They remind the body of proper function until the body can re-take the job.

When considering a supplement, take a moment, Read the label, Notice what the body might already be getting through food or other supports.

Ask your body Is this right for us right now? Then listen.

We often forget that the body can be part of the conversation. Yet when we slow down and ask, it often gives surprisingly clear feedback.

Healing typically unfolds as a series of small moments of awareness — remembering that body, mind, and spirit are not separate systems trying to solve separate problems.

They are one living process, constantly adjusting, responding, and moving back toward balance.

Sometimes the most powerful step is simply remembering to pause and listen.
