Meditation Workshop

Exploring different ways to settle the mind and listen within

How meditation first entered my life

Years ago, when my husband and I were newly married, we became curious about meditation. We didn’t know much about it. We were simply curious.

We found a book by Stephen Levine called A Gradual Awakening. Following the instructions in the book, we began meditating every morning. We would get out of bed, go to the bathroom, and then sit to meditate. We didn’t brush our teeth or get dressed—because we knew that if daily life started moving, the meditation would likely be skipped.

That simple commitment was the beginning of meditation for me.

Learning that there isn’t just one way to meditate

Over time, through teachers, courses, and personal experience, I learned that meditation isn’t one thing. There are different approaches for different moments and different needs.

Some days I practice mindfulness meditation. Other days, concentration meditation feels more supportive. I studied guided imagery and hypnosis, and at times I use mantra meditation—repeating a sound or phrase to help the mind settle.

What I came to understand is that meditation works best when it fits the person and the moment, rather than when it’s forced into a single form.

What this workshop is really about

This three-hour meditation workshop offers a chance to explore several meditation approaches in a grounded, experiential way. Rather than focusing on doing it “right,” the emphasis is on noticing what actually supports calm, clarity, and inner listening.

During the workshop, we sample and practice:

  • mindfulness meditation

  • concentration meditation

  • contemplation

  • guided imagery

The intention is not to prescribe a daily practice, but to offer options—so you can begin to recognize what supports you best.

Support you can return to afterward

The workshop includes simple guidance and reference materials you can return to later. Many people find it helpful to revisit these when meditation feels difficult or when they want to reconnect without pressure or expectation.

An invitation

If you’ve been curious about meditation but unsure where to begin—or if you’ve tried meditating and felt you were doing it “wrong”—this workshop offers a gentle, practical place to explore what meditation can feel like when it’s allowed to fit you.
